Food assistance through WFP in Rwamwanja refugee settlements

On 29th November 2012, Ambassador Minagawa visited Rwamwanja refugee settlements in Kamwenge District together with Mr. Sory Ouane, Representative and Country Director of WFP Uganda, to observe WFP food distribution project supported by the Japanese Government.

Escaping from East DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) conflicts since the end of 2011, more than 54,000 refugees fled to Uganda during 2012. The project aims at supporting vulnerable people including refugees by distributing food through WFP. In 2012, Japan contributed USD 5 million to WFP for its programs in Uganda.
