Recovery and Disaster Risk Reduction against Floods Project through Uganda Red Cross Society
in Butaleja District in the Eastern Uganda
On 14th March 2013, H.E. Ambassador Minagawa visited Butaleja District together with Mr. Nataka Michael Richard, Secretary-General of the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS). He visited a village provided with new and rehabilitated boreholes and newly-constructed flood resistant houses, all of which were supported by Japan.
Butaleja District is often affected by heavy rain and flooding of river Manafwa, which results in the contamination of water, damage to crops and infrastructure, and the destruction of livelihoods. Japan contributed USD 200,000 in 2012 and provided safe water and shelter for the people through URCS.
