The Project for Social Infrastructure Development for Promoting Return and

Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons

On 27 May 2013, Ambassador Minagawa attended, as guest of honor, the handover ceremony of roads and bridges constructed under “the Project for Social Infrastructure Development for Promoting Return and Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)”, a grant of 1.34 billion yen (some 13.4 million USD), together with Hon. John Byabagambi, Minister of State for Works and Transport (Works), and Hon. Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Minister of State for Northern Uganda, in Agago district.

Through the grant, six new bridges and one road have been constructed, one road improved from dirt to tarmac, and four old district roads and community access roads rehabilitated in Acholi Sub-region with the aim to facilitate the IDPs’ return and resettlement process.
