Japan Funds Health, Education and Sports projects
H.E. Kazuo Minagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, has signed today, at the Embassy of Japan, the grant contracts totalling some 863,784,000 shillings (US$ 359,910) with the representatives of three grass-roots organizations for education, health and sports projects.
For health project, Bubangizi Health Centre in Mitooma district received US$ 98,710 to construct a maternity ward and procure equipments. Through this project, expectant mothers who used to deliver at home or at distant hospitals will be able to give birth safely in their own community health centre.
For education projects, Mpara sub-county received US$ 139,025 for Kibaale and Kisambya primary schools in Kyegegwa district to construct classrooms and latrine blocks and provide desks for pupils. The two schools have inadequate structures, and latrine ratio now stands at 1 stance for 95 pupils. Through the projects, school age children of the two districts will benefit from greatly improved learning environment with permanent classrooms, furniture and sanitation facilities.
For sports project, Uganda Baseball and Soft Ball Association received US$ 122,175 for construction of a national baseball and softball stadium in Gayaza near Kampala. Through this project, the first full-size baseball stadium in the country will be constructed and over 20,000 young baseball and softball players will be able to enjoy the sports there. This unique contribution of a national baseball stadium will also contribute to enhancing the physical education in Uganda.
The donations above are part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects and Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Project, schemes administered by the Japanese Embassy to support community-based development projects in Uganda.

The grant contract signing ceremony will take place at the Conference Room (2nd Floor), Embassy of Japan, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, Kampara, starting at 3:00pm, on 18th December 2012.
