Since the government introduced Universal Primary Education, there has been an upsurge in enrolment levels from 150,000 pupils to 350,000 pupils in Arua District. The district has 161 government aided primary schools, but the government approves construction of 6 blocks of 4 classrooms per year, meaning that it will take years to have enough classrooms.

The Ambaddador of Japan to Uganda, H.E. Mr. Keiichi Kato attended the handing over ceremony at Ambeko Primary School, Arua District on 26th November 2009.
