Pope John Paul II Memorial College is a community and privately secondary school founded by the Catholic Church in 2006. It started to operate in 2007 and was registered the same year by the Ministry of Education and Sports as a reaction to acute shortage of schools in Karamoja region to offer more chance for pupils in Karamoja to attain formal education. The school has Senior One to Senior Six classes, with only two classrooms for Senior Four and Senior Six students. Two other classes study in Primary school classrooms and two others in the Parish Hall and using borrowed benches. The School will construct two blocks of four classrooms in total, and procure students desks, teachers’ chairs and desks. This will enable over 420 pupils currently enrolled and additional new students to have access to the environment conducive to learning.
