Lira and Dokolo districts were affected by the 21 year armed conflict leaving most of the infrastructure destroyed. Many returnees had no access to safe water and would have to walk long distances (in search of water) since the few sources that existed were destroyed during the insurgency. Lack of access to safe water had put heavy burden on women and children. This project has contributed to increasing access to safe water for over 10,000 former Internally Displaced Persons who are returning to five sub-counties in Lira and Dokolo districts.
