Rubona Senior Secondary School was founded in 1970 and became a government aided school in 1984. It is the only government aided senior school in Kisoromo Sub-County in Kabarole and has over 500 students. Despite the fact that the Ministry of Education made the three science subjects compulsory at all secondary school level, Rubona SS did not have a science laboratory, and was using an old classroom without any science facilities as a laboratory. The school has well trained science teachers who has been trained through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Secondary Science and Mathematics Teacher (SESEMAT) Project.
