St. Lucia Kagamba Health Centre IV was established in 1996 by Uganda Catholic Church. It had been using its outpatients ward as a general ward as it lacked the facility, thus providing the outpatients service at an old house building not suited for such medical service. Furthermore, the health centre had to use the dormitory for nurses (another old house building) as a maternity inpatient ward, thus nurses had been forced to reside outside the compound. It had been very difficult therefore to maintain the 24 hours service. Through the project a general inpatient ward has been constructed in order to use the outpatient ward for its original purpose, and use the old house buildings, which had been used for outpatients and maternity inpatients, as dormitories for nurses. The project will benefit over 75,000 people living in the catchment area of the Health Centre.
