St. Paul’s Health Centre was established in 1989 by Church of Uganda. It lies under the Mountains of Rwenzori near the border with Democratic Republic of Congo. Kasese is the region where the Allied Democratic Force (ADF) had been active during 1990s, and its public infrastructure is generally under-developed. The Health Centre is one of the major health facilities in Kasese district where average of 81 babies are delivered per month; however, due to the lack of a maternity ward, mothers and infants had been admitted in the already overcrowded general ward together with other patients, exposed to a danger of cross infection. By the project, a new maternity ward has been constructed and medical equipment procured to improve the health service at the Centre.
