Caritas Lira is a Local FBO established in 1970, who’s headquarter in Roma-Italy. They have been working in the areas of safe water and sanitation, community health, education, microfinance and agriculture targeting Lango sub-region. Lango region has been heavily affected by the 20 years conflict between LRA and the government, which left over 1.8million IDPs and the disruption of social service delivery. Since 2006, the resettlement of the IDPs has started, however, many of them have to travel 4-5km in search for drinking water, which is an obstacle for re-establishing productive activities. The project will improve access to safe water by constructing 9 boreholes in 9 villages and benefit over 4,300 villagers at 4 sub counties.

The Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, Mr. Kazuo Minagawa, attended the handing over ceremony at Omito Village, Abia Sub-county in Alebtong District on 20th October, 2011.
