Mushumba Community is located in Ryery Sub-County, Rubirizi District, which was curved out from Bushenyi District in 2010. There is a gravity scheme water system in the community constructed through community contribution; however, four out of seven parishes in the community are located at higher altitude than the existing system, and have no access to safe water. Furthermore, the available tap water is too costly for most households to afford, which is forcing women and children to walk over a steep hill for more than 3 km to fetch water at a crater lake called Lake Kako. The project aims to improve the access to safe water for 18,000 people living in the four parishes in Mushumba Community.
