Kabale District is located in the mountainous region of southwestern Uganda, and most people in the district are living on near subsistence farming. Due to its location on the main highway to Rwanda, Bukinda Sub-County, with a population of 149,000, is commercially very active, but has only two health centres far in the mountainous villages which are not easy to access. Thus, many villagers cannot go to the centres and more than half of HIV/AIDS patients (6.3% of the population) do not get proper treatment while 42% of mothers deliver at home without a midwife. By this project, an accessible health centre has been constructed for the people in Bukinda Sub-county to improve their access to health care services.
