Amolatar District, curved out from Lira District in 2006, is situated in Northern Uganda with population of about 140,000. Northern Uganda has been heavily affected by the 20 years conflict between LRA and the government, which left over 1.8million IDPs. Amolatar District has been accepting many IDPs and Amai Community Hospital has provided medical treatment for them. Amai Community Hospital is the only district referral hospital in the district treating about 50,000 patients annually. It is also the only hospital in the district providing maternal services but without a maternity ward. The project will improve health services of the hospital through construction of a maternity ward and provision of medical equipment, and benefit over 1,800 pregnant women and nursing mothers annually.
