Koboko District is situated in North-western Uganda, known as West Nile region, facing its borders to South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with population of about 210,000. During Idi Amin regime in 1970s, West Nile region had developed its infrastructure as he was from the region. However, most of the infrastructure was destroyed and the people had to flee to neighboring countries of South Sudan and DRC when the regime collapsed. Today, most of the people have returned to their villages. However, social infrastructures including schools are in poor condition. The project will drill 17 boreholes in 17 schools to improve the learning environment and access to safe water for over 11,510 pupils and students.
