Teso region in Eastern Uganda, including Soroti District, was badly affected by regional conflict with the neighbouring Karamojongs and terror attacks from Lord Resistance Army. Some people still remain to be internally displaced and the region is known as one of the poorest in Uganda. Soroti Islamic Primary School was started in 1954, and has moved to its current location in 1989. The school has been utilized as a shelter for IDPs, thus the construction process of the school hindered and many of the facilities deteriorated. Furthermore, the flood in 2009 left some teachers without houses, who are now using the school classrooms as their homes.
The project will complete the unfinished classroom block and construct houses for teachers to improve the educational environment.
