Northern Uganda was heavily inflicted by LRA insurgencies over the 20 years with around 2 million IDPs created and social service delivery destructed. Since the peace agreement in 2006, the security in the region has been improving and the resettlement of IDPs progressing; however the resettlement has been difficult due to the delay in reconstruction of the public infrastructure. In Northern Uganda, including Kitgum District, girls’ education has been neglected and many of them were abducted by LRA. The girls prefer boarding schools to day schools fearing the long distance they have to walk; however, with no dormitories in secondary schools, many girls tend to abandon their studies. Through this project, new dormitory blocks, a latrine block, a bathroom and fences around the facilities have been constructed and 63 two-decker beds procured to support the girls’ education and improve their living conditions at the school.
