Mitooma District is located in south western Uganda and Bugangizi Health Centre is the only health centre offering maternity services in the district. The health centre has well trained midwives and nurses who can tend mothers, but lacks adequate space for the services. Even after utilizing spaces in general wards and immunization halls, there is still not enough space for expectant mothers who would need close attention. Consequently, mothers are sent back home only to come back for labor which increases the risk of delivering at home by themselves and the death toll of both mothers and babies. The project has constructed a maternity ward, provided 2 delivery beds, 18 inpatient beds and 58 mosquito nets for the patients to improve the health service delivery for 106,900 people living in the area.
