Kyegegwa district in western Uganda is a new district carved out from Kyenjojo district in 2010 and lacks basic infrastructure for education. Mpara sub-county in the new district is especially remote and many public schools lack adequate learning environment. At Kisambya Primary School, the congestion is particularly high: only 12 classrooms for 1212 pupils, namely, number of pupils per classroom is 101. At Kibaale Primary School, four out of six classrooms are on the verge of collapsing: the walls are maintained by mud, with no windows or doors. The project will construct 4 classroom blocks (11 classrooms in total) and 3 toilet blocks, and procure 223 seater-desks for pupils and, thus will improve the basic learning environment in the two schools.
