Nurture Africa is located in Wakiso District next to Kampala where most of the population commutes to Kampala on a daily basis. Nurture Africa was established in 2006 and operates an HIV/AIDS and primary health care service centre for free of charge in an area with the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the country. It is the only medical centre which provides pediatric HIV/AIDS and mother to child transmission prevention and treatment services in the area. However, the facilities at the current centre are too small to provide urgent medical care. In addition, there is no other health centre providing male-circumcision in the area despite the fact that the government encourages free male circumcision as a means of HIV/AIDS prevention according to Uganda’s national strategic plan. As a result, the people have limited access to their HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and its prevalence remains at a high level. This project, by constructing children’s HIV/AIDS and Primary Health Care Service Centre will benefit more than 20,000 people.
