Wakyato Sub-County in Nakaseke District is located in remote area of central Uganda where infrastructural development remains inadequate. After the implementation of universal primary education policy in 1997, the number of enrollments has been increasing. However, currently there is only 11 public or government-aided primary schools in the Sub-County. Kyakayonga Primary School was established in 1977 by the community as one of the 11 schools in the Sub-County. Since the nearest school is 8km away, Kyakayonga school is the only primary school in the area. Nonetheless, the existing classroom block has only two classrooms. Therefore, students in the 6 classes from Primary 1 to Primary 5 have lessons in the makeshift structure made of wooden posts and thatched roof. Some students don’t even have a classroom and study under the tree. In bad weather, the lessons have to be cancelled. In the makeshift building, students also suffer from dust and rain, undermining their healthy growth. This project will construct 2 classroom blocks with 6 classrooms in total, and thus improve the learning environment for 203 pupils at the school.
