Amuru District in the northern Uganda along the border with Southern Sudan had been affected by 20 years of armed conflicts and most of the infrastructure and social services remain dysfunctional. Lamogi and Amuru Sub-Counties are located in particularly remote areas and are slow in development compared to other Sub-Counties in the district with a low rate of access to safe water at 49%. Women and children bear a burden without easy access to safe water, and it has led the children to drop out of school. Also many people suffer from water borne diseases due to dirty water from nearby springs. The project will construct 8 deep wells and 6 shallow wells, and protect 8 springs which will provide access to safe water for 8,939 people in 22 villages in Lamogi and Amuru Sub-Counties.
