On 21 and 22 October 2026, the Embassy of Japan conducted an Official Development Assistance (ODA) Press Tour in Northern Uganda, covering three completed Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) and a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Volunteer. The Embassy team also hosted networking dinners in Lira on 21 October and in Gulu on 22 October.

The tour attracted participation from various media outlets, which covered the projects and interviewed beneficiaries and stakeholders. The networking dinners were attended by a number of distinguished guests, including Hon. Beatrice Akori Akello, Minister of State, Office of the Prime Minister (Northern Uganda).

The projects and JICA Volunteer featured during the tour were:

  1. The Project for the Construction of Classroom Blocks at Amorigoga Primary School in Kwania District
  2. Mr. Mikio Kasahara, a JICA Volunteer working with Itek Okile Rice Growers Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd.
  3. The Project for the Construction of a Library in Kitgum District
  4. The Project for the Construction of an Operation Theatre at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Kitgum District

The ODA Press Tour aimed to provide media representatives with an opportunity to observe and report on development initiatives supported by the Government of Japan under its ODA program, with a particular focus on GGP projects.

Throughout the tour, participants were able to witness the achievements of the projects firsthand, engage directly with beneficiaries and implementing partners, and gain a deeper understanding of Japan’s development cooperation in Uganda.

As of 27 October 2026, twelve media articles covering the tour and featured projects have been published.
