Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Grant Contract Signing Ceremony FY 2025

On 24 February 2025, Ambassador Sasayama and the representatives of the Foundation for Development and Relief Africa (FIDRA) and Mission 316 Foundation signed the Grant Contracts (G/C) of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) at the Embassy of Japan. They will implement education and water/sanitation projects for grassroots development in Uganda in the districts of Oyam and Rakai, respectively.
Foundation for Development and Relief Africa (FIDRA) will implement “The Project for the Construction of a Classroom Block at Angweta Primary School in Oyam District” and will receive USD 53,693 from the Government of Japan. Through this project, one classroom block will be constructed with four (4) classrooms and one (1) office space. One hundred eighty-seven (187) three-seater school desks for pupils, four desks and chairs for teachers and a filing cabin will also be provided to improve the learning and teaching environment, keep pupils in school and enable them to complete primary education.
Mission 316 Foundation will implement “The Project for the Construction of Boreholes in 2 Sub Counties in Rakai District” and will receive USD 87,212 from the Government of Japan. Through this project, seven (7) boreholes will be constructed in Byakabanda and Lwanda sub-counties in Rakai district to improve access to safe water and decrease water-borne diseases.
Ambassador Sasayama delivered a speech at the ceremony, congratulating the two projects which were selected out of approximately 400 applications. The ambassador also highlighted the importance of both sectors, education, and safe access to safe water, which are the foundations of life for the people of Uganda.
