The Embassy of Japan in Uganda handed over newly constructed 7 boreholes—one in each village across 7 villages located in Byakabanda and Lwanda Sub-Counties in Rakai District.

Through this project, approximately 10,800 residents in the 7 villages have improved access to safe and clean water. As a result, the rates of access to safe water are expected to rise from 15% to 20% in Byakabanda Sub-County and from 17% to 22% in Lwanda Sub-County. We also expect this improvement to reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases and contribute to the welfare of the residents in the community.
In addition, the boreholes were strategically constructed in locations that are both visible and secure, with the aim of preventing accidents such as child drownings and incidents of gender-based violence.

This project, titled “The Project for the Construction of Boreholes in 2 Sub Counties in Rakai District” (Grant amount: USD 87,212), was implemented under the Japanese Government's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, in response to a request from Mission 316 Foundation, a local organization active in the areas.
