On 26 Sep, H.E. SASAYAMA Takuya, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Uganda, signed the Grant Contract of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Recycle Projects with the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health, to implement the Project for Provision of Secondhand Ambulances and Fire Trucks in 2 Cities and 11 Districts to strengthen emergency and disaster prevention systems in Uganda.
 
The Ministry of Health will implement “The Project for the Provision of Secondhand Ambulances and Fire Trucks in 2 Cities and 11 Districts” and will receive USD US$ 520,760 from the Government of Japan. This project will enable rapid firefighting and rescue operations in the event of an emergency fire in 2 cities and 11 districts in Uganda with a population of approximately 6.2 million. As a result, economic activities in the regions will be stabilized and the lives and property of residents will be protected.
 
During the ceremony, Ambassador Sasayama delivered a speech in which he noted that it is a matter of great satisfaction to provide 13 emergency vehicles to the Republic of Uganda, which will add on to the various momentous events the Government of Japan has been holding this year, such as hosting Vice President Jessica Alupo at TICAD 9 and holding Uganda’s exhibition at the Osaka Expo. He further expressed his hope that the provided vehicles will be actively used in the deployment areas and contribute to improve the emergency system.
 
Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health gave a speech, addressing how the vehicles will contribute to achieving their current development plans of the health sector in Uganda. She further pledged to ensure proper maintenance of the provided vehicles and to make effective use of the provided vehicles.
