GGP Grant: The Project for the Provision of Secondhand Ambulances and Fire Trucks in 3 Cities and 8 Districts

Signing of the Grant Contract
Speech by Ambassador Sasayama
On 26 Sep, H.E. Mr. SASAYAMA Takuya, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Uganda, signed the Grant Contract of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Recycle Projects with the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health, to implement the Project for Provision of Secondhand Ambulances and Fire Trucks in 3 Cities and 8 Districts to strengthen emergency and disaster prevention systems in Uganda.
The Ministry of Health will implement “The Project for the Provision of Secondhand Ambulances and Fire Trucks in 3 Cities and 8 Districts” and will receive USD 584,965 from the Government of Japan. This project will enable rapid firefighting and rescue operations in the event of an emergency fire in 3 cities and 8 districts in Uganda with a population of approximately 6.2 million. As a result, economic activities in the regions will be stabilized and the lives and property of residents will be protected.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Sasayama delivered a speech in which he noted the importance of donating 17 emergency vehicles to the Republic of Uganda, especially considering the high demand for emergency medical transport and fire response services. He further expressed his hope that the provided vehicles will be actively used in the deployment areas and contribute to improve the emergency system.
Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health gave a speech, expressing gratitude on how the vehicles will contribute to strengthening the capacity of their emergency service teams. She further pledged to ensure proper maintenance of the provided vehicles and to make effective use of the provided vehicles.
