GGP Grant: The Project for the Construction of Classroom Blocks at Ongongoja Secondary School in Katakwi District

On Friday 11 November 2022, Ambassador Fukuzawa attended the commissioning ceremony for “The Project for the Construction of Classroom Blocks at Ongongoja Secondary School in Katakwi District” and formally handed over two classroom blocks and classroom furniture. During the ceremony, Ambassador Fukuzawa expressed his hope for the school to maintain the donated facilities well again, especially considering that they were able to benefit from the grant scheme for the second time as the facilities provided under the first project had been properly maintained and effectively utilized.
The project was budgeted for a total of USD 85,953 equivalent to over 299 million Ug. Shs. The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects which uplift the life of people at the grassroots level. So far, a total of 274 projects have been funded under the scheme since its initiation in Uganda in 1992.
Ongongoja Secondary School has contributed for secondary education in Ongongoja sub-county since it was established in 2007. At the time of requesting for the grant, the school had only four classrooms for 10 streams from S.1 to S4. It was very congested and not conducive environment for students and teachers to carry out lessons. As a response to this challenge, the Embassy of Japan supported Ongongoja Secondary School to construct furnished classroom blocks.
