GGP Grant: The Project for the Construction of a General Ward and Latrine Blocks at Kalaki Health Centre III in Kalaki District

Inspection of the general ward
On Wednesday 20 July 2022, Ambassador Fukuzawa attended the commissioning ceremony for “The Project for the Construction of a General Ward and Latrine Blocks at Kalaki Health Centre III in Kalaki District” and formally handed over the general ward, two latrine blocks and furniture. During the ceremony, Ambassador Fukuzawa expressed his hope that the facilities will enable patients in need of hospitalization to gain access to inpatient care.
The project was budgeted with a total grant of USD 82,166 equivalent to over 286 million Ug. Shs. The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects which uplift the life of people at the grassroots level. So far, a total of 274 projects have been funded under the scheme since its initiation in Uganda in 1992.
Kalaki Health Centre III was established in 1987 and has a direct catchment population of 21,000 people from neighboring communities. Due to unavailability of an inpatient ward, patients who needs admission were referred to a next hospital which is 30km away. As a response to this challenge, the Embassy of Japan supported Kalaki Health Centre III to construct a furnished inpatient ward and latrine blocks to improve health environment.
