Shs.The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects which uplift the life of people at the grassroots level. So far, a total of 267 projects have been funded under the scheme since its initiation in Uganda in 1992.

The Ogooma Children’s Home started as an orphanage in 2009 to support the orphans and vulnerable children in terms of welfare and education. Since they were exposed to physical, mental and social distress which heavily affected their education consequently leading to and increased need to accommodate them in the orphanage. The orphanage started with 60 girls but because of many child-headed homes and elderly-headed homes, many girls were in vulnerable situation and could not complete primary education. This has currently increased the number of girls in the hostel to 130, far beyond the capacity of the available dormitory. As a response to this challenge, the Embassy of Japan supported Ogooma Children’s Home to construct a furnished girls’ dormitory and a latrine block.
