On 6th September 2022, The Representative from the Embassy of Japan, Mr. KITAMURA Yoshinori, attended the handover ceremony for “The Project for the Construction of Classroom Blocks at Busala Primary School in Luuka District”, and officially handed over two classroom blocks, a latrine block, and furniture. During the ceremony, Mr. Kitamura expressed his hope that the newly constructed classroom block and latrine facilities will provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for children in the community and contribute to achieving quality education for all.

This project was signed on 10th March 2020 with a total grant of USD 106,111, equivalent to over 370 million Ug. Shs. The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects which uplift the life of people at the grassroots level. So far, a total of 274 projects have been funded under the scheme since its initiation in Uganda in 1992.

Busala Primary School has contributed for primary education in Bulongo sub-county since it was established in 1962. At the time of requesting for the project, the school had only dilapidated semi-permanent structures and were hazardous to the pupils. In addition, latrine blocks were worn out and pupils’ safety and hygiene were not guaranteed. As a response to this situation, the Embassy of Japan through GGP scheme supported  to construct furnished classroom blocks and two latrine blocks. It is expected that this will help pupils learn in an conducive leaning environment.
