The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects which uplift the life of people at the grassroots level. So far, a total of 267 projects have been funded under the scheme since its initiation in Uganda in 1992.
Bukedea Mission Health Center III was established in 1972 as an emergency center to treat the sick and wounded people affected by the political unrests that destabilized health service delivery at that time. The health center now has a direct catchment population of 11,573 people from five neighboring villages. Because the increasing number of patients seeking medical services these days, the available beds were shared by the patients. As a response to this challenge, the Embassy of Japan supported Bukedea Mission Health Center III to construct a furnished general ward and a latrine block with oxygen concentrator.
