GGP Grant: Japan Improves School Sanitation and Hygiene in Isingiro District

On 2 December, Ambassador Fukuzawa formally handed over the newly constructed rainwater harvesting tanks and VIP latrines in 7 primary schools in Isingiro District provisioned through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). “The Project for the Improvement of School Sanitation and Hygiene in 7 Primary Schools in Isingiro District” was signed between the Embassy of Japan and the Agency for Co-operation and Research in Development (ACORD) on March 2017, with a total grant of 80,318 USD equivalent to over 250 million Ug. Shs. The commissioning ceremony was held at Kyajungu Primary School and was attended by District officials.
Isingiro District receives less rainfall compared to the rest of Uganda thus residents suffer from water shortage. This project will improve the accessibility to safe water and sanitation and hygiene for 2,111 pupils in 7 primary schools.
