On 24 November 2023, Ambassador Fukuzawa attended the commissioning ceremony for “The Project for the Construction of a Science Laboratory Block at Koro Senior Secondary School in Omoro District”, officially handing over the science laboratory block and furniture. At the ceremony, Ambassador Fukuzawa emphasized that partnership and ownership are essential for ensuring equal opportunities for all children and expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with communities that demonstrate strong commitment to the sustainable management of project facilities.
The project was signed on 13th January, 2020 with a total grant of USD 90,129, equivalent to over 314 million Ug. Shs. The support is part of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a scheme administered by the Embassy of Japan to fund community development projects which uplift the life of people at the grassroots level. So far, a total of 281 projects have been funded under the scheme since its initiation in Uganda in 1992.
Koro Senior Secondary School was established in 2006. The school improvised two classrooms into science laboratory rooms; however, they did not meet the required standard for a laboratory. As a response to this challenge, the Embassy of Japan supported Koro Senior Secondary School to improve their science learning environment by constructing a furnished science laboratory block.
