2021/2/17

On 11 February, Ambassador Fukuzawa attended the ABE Initiative (African Business Education Initiative for Youth) 4th Batch Online Reporting Session. The session started with the opening remarks by Mr. Fukase, Chief Representative of JICA Uganda followed by presentations by four of the returning participants of ABE Initiative this year who studied at Nagoya University, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Reitaku University.
The topics included their experience in Japan as well as their accomplishment in their field of study that ranged from International Development to Animal Husbandry, to Economics and Business Administration. In his closing remarks, Ambassador Fukuzawa expressed his wish that the returning students be ‘kakehashi’ (bridge) between Japan and Uganda.
ABE Initiative is a program that offers opportunities for African youths to study Masters Courses at Japanese Universities as international students and also experience internships at Japanese companies. It aims at fostering young personnel who can contribute to the development of industries in Africa and become "navigators" for Japanese firms in Africa.
Since 2015, 27 participants went to Japan from Uganda on ABE Initiative.
