Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships Application Information
Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology /MEXT) offers annual scholarships for non-Japanese nationals who wish to study in Japan under the following schemes.
Applicants shall refer to the offical guidelines under each scheme for application documents and screening process including exams. To access the guidelines, please click the name of each category.
Research Students CLOSED
Criteria for Academic Background: University Graduates with 1st class or 2nd class Upper Honours Degree OR a Master's Degree.

Note: Submitted documents for research students should be 1 original set and 2 copies. Submission of the Placement Preference Form at first screening is optional.
College of Technology (KOSEN) Students CLOSED
Criteria for Academic background:
Specialized Training College (SENSYU) Students CLOSED
Criteria for Academic background:
Teacher Training Students CLOSED
Criteria for Academic and Career background:
Graduates of Universities or teacher training schools who have worked as teachers at primary/secondary education institutions or teacher trainig schools (excluding universities) in Uganda for a total period of five years or more.
Schedule
Submitting Your Application
1. Applicants shall be Ugandan Nationals.
2. Write the document number in the right upper corner for all your documents, according to the list in the application guidelines and place them in a single envelope or folder. All the documents shall be either original or certified true copy and shall not be stapled.
3. Physically submit ALL necessary documents at once, including copies (1 original set and 2 copies for Research students, and 1 original set and 1 copy for other categories. Please follow instructions in application guidelines), at the embassy of Japan in Uganda before or on the indicated deadline date above. These documents will NOT be returned. Should you foresee the necessity of keeping a copy of the requirements for your own purpose, it should be done BEFORE submission. Email and late application will NOT be accepted.
4. Please refer to the application guidelines carefully to determine which tests or subjects you are required to undertake.
Although Japanese proficiency may not necessarily be the determining factor, all applicants are required to take Japanese language exam.

Criteria for Academic Background: University Graduates with 1st class or 2nd class Upper Honours Degree OR a Master's Degree.

Criteria for Academic background:
- Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with a minimum of B in Mathematics and at least two principle passes; OR
- A diploma in a science-related field, with an official transcript (or equivalent proof) showing grades in Engineering mathematics and related subjects.

Specialized Training College (SENSYU) Students CLOSED
Criteria for Academic background:
- Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two principle passes; OR
- A diploma in a field relevant to the programme the applicant intends to pursue, with an official transcript (or equivalent proof) demonstrating a CGPA or a minimum of Second Class (Credit II).

Teacher Training Students CLOSED

Graduates of Universities or teacher training schools who have worked as teachers at primary/secondary education institutions or teacher trainig schools (excluding universities) in Uganda for a total period of five years or more.

Japanese Alumni of Uganda Association (JAUA)
The Japanese Alumni of Uganda Association (JAUA) was officially launched on February 25, 2014. The purpose for which the Association is formed is to bring together as a family all Uganda Alumni of Japan to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between Japan and Uganda through the Members and current students by building a network of friends and supporters. Its membership is open for any Ugandan that has studied or studies in Japan.
