Signing Ceremony for "The Project for the Construction of an Operation Theatre at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kitgum District" and another project under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)

On 9 December 2022, Ambassador Fukuzawa and the representatives of the two recipient organizations signed the Grant Contracts (G/C) of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) at the Ambassador's residence. Present was Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, State Minister of Minister of Foreign Affairs, to witness this signing ceremony and addressed Japanese Government’s leadership on this GGP scheme.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Kitgum will implement “The Project for the Construction of an Operation Theatre at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kitgum District” and will receive USD 91,099 from the Government of Japan. Through this project, it is expected that approximately 2,880 patients annually visiting St. Joseph’s Hospital Kitgum will benefit from the safe and sanitary facility.
Kitgum District Local Government will implement “The Project for the Construction of Classroom Blocks and Teachers' House at Bola Primary School in Kitgum District” and will receive USD 92,296 from the Government of Japan. The project aims to create safer and more comfortable learning environment, and it is expected to benefit about 630 students and 8 teachers through the improvement in the quality of education.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Fukuzawa delivered a speech in which he noted that the GGP is an unique initiative that the Embassy directly partners with local organizations to implement projects, and expressed his hope that they will work together to ensure smooth implementation of the projects. The representatives of the two recipient organizations gave speeches and pledged to work together to improve the challenges that they are currently facing through the implementation of their projects.
