On 19 March 2026, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Yoshida signed grant contracts under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects with World Vision Japan (WVJ) and Community Road Empowerment (CORE), which will implement projects in Yumbe District and Kassanda District, respectively.

WVJ will implement the project titled “Empowerment through Education Project in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement” with a grant of USD 632,660 provided by the Government of Japan. In response to a large number of children who are unable to complete primary education due to insufficient learning facilities and limited support systems, the project will address the critical shortage of classrooms and latrines while supporting children with disabilities. Alongside establishing a safe and inclusive learning environment, the project will provide teacher training on supporting learners with disabilities, promote continued schooling for girls, and strengthen school management structures.

CORE has received a grant of USD 295,593 to implement the project titled “Building Climate Resilience through Improved Water Access, Environmental Restoration, and Development of Rural Infrastructure.” The project area has been significantly affected by prolonged droughts and unstable rainfall patterns, causing roads to become impassable during the rainy season. As a result, residents are forced to travel long distances to access water, and maintaining livestock has become increasingly difficult. Under this project, a multipurpose water reservoir will be constructed, a critical road section will be rehabilitated, and commercial woodlots will be established. These interventions are designed to restore the environment while improving household incomes.

In his remarks, Mr. Yoshida, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, expressed his expectation that the facilities, equipment, and training provided through these projects would promote sustainable development and bring lasting benefits to local communities. He also emphasized the importance of proper implementation of both projects and the need for beneficiary communities to undertake responsible maintenance and continuous use of the facilities.
