Japan Hands Over Classrooms to Isingiro District

The government of Japan has handed over classroom blocks to three primary schools in Isingiro district. This came as an outcome of an 86,824 USD grant that was signed between the Embassy and the district in December 2009. “The children who were studying in over congested classrooms and in the open air can now study in a more comfortable atmosphere” said Mr. Keiichi Kato; the Ambassador of Japan, who officiated at the commissioning ceremony that was held at Burungamo Primary School. He urged the people to ensure that the project made a lasting contribution to the district and the generations to come.

The government of Japan funds such projects through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), a financial scheme intended to support community-based development projects. As of last year 2010, Japan through the GGP had funded 73 educational projects in Uganda which range from construction of structures in schools, provision of equipment and refurbishment of facilities.
