Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships for Teacher Training

The application for the 2021 MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship for Ugandan teachers is now open. All applications must be submitted to the Embassy of Japan in Uganda by 4:00pm on Friday, 19 February 2021. We do not accept submission by email.

Important Note: The selection process may be cancelled or applicants may be unable to travel to Japan even after being selected for the MEXT Scholarship Program due to measures taken in response to COVID-19.
 

1. Outline of eligibility:

• Applicants must be graduates of universities or teacher training schools and have worked as teachers at primary/secondary educational institutions or teacher training schools (excluding universities) in their home countries for a total period of five years or more as of October 1, 2021. In-service faculty members in a higher education institution are not eligible. 
• Applicants must assure that they return to their home country by the end of the final month of the scholarship period and resume their work as a teacher at his/her primary/secondary educational institution or teacher training school. Applicants shall utilizethe results of their research on school education in Japan.

3. Selection process:
1. Application deadline: Friday, February 19, 2021
2. Application documents review: Friday, February 26, 2021
3. Examination (Japanese and English) and Interview (in Kampala): Friday, March 5, 2021
4. Results of the 1st screening notification: Monday, March 8, 2021
5. 2^nd screening notification: Late May 2021
6. Placement notification: July-August 2021
7. Departure to Japan: September-October 2021
