2025/3/7
On 5 March, Ambassador Sasayama attended the ceremony to hand over second-hand Japanese ambulances and fire trucks to strengthen emergency and disaster management systems in 3 cities and 8 districts of Uganda. The Minister of Health, the Deputy Inspector General of Police and other guests were present on the day and expressed their appreciation for Japan's cooperation.

This project, titled “The Project for the Provision of Secondhand Ambulances and Fire Trucks to 3 Cities and 8 Districts in Uganda” (grant limit: USD 391,917), was implemented under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) for Uganda.

Uganda has a nationwide shortage of 241 ambulances and 100 fire trucks. With a total shortage of 341 emergency vehicles, the mission of strengthening the emergency and fire prevention system had been a pressing issue. To address this challenge, the project addressed the challenge by allocating second-hand ambulances and fire trucks to 3 cities - Kampala, Masaka and Jinja - and 8 districts - Nebbi, Moyo, Kalangala, Kapchorwa, Wakiso, Mpigi, Luwero and Kayunga.

This initiative is expected to improve medical transport services and speed up firefighting response in the targeted areas, contributing to strengthening the overall emergency and disaster response system in Uganda.
